入谷朝顔まつりは毎年7月6日から8日まで開催される、日本最大の朝顔市です。この三日間は入谷鬼子母神や言問通りには60軒の朝顔業者と96軒の露店（縁日）が並び、毎年約40万人もの人出で賑わっています。
入谷の朝顔が世に知られるようになったのは、江戸時代末期の頃といわれています。最初は御徒町で栽培されていたものが、時代の変遷とともに入谷の植木屋が造るようになったそうです。明治中期になるとその出来栄えの素晴らしさから、鑑賞用として広く知られるようになりました。
最盛期の頃は、花粉の交配によって一千種類もの朝顔が花を咲かせたといいます。その後、大正の時代に一度入谷の地から姿を消した朝顔ですが、戦後に朝顔同好会（現 朝顔実行委員会）により、再び朝顔市として今の姿を取り戻すこととなりました。
江戸時代から夏の風物詩として江戸っ子に親しまれてきた朝顔。時代を超えて、江戸の夏が感じられる三日間です。

終了時間の約30分ほど前より清掃車が入りますので、速やかに歩道へご移動くださいませ。
